The Paper Commentary | Dedication and contribution are not at odds with taking a vacation
Dedication and service are not in conflict with time off
Recently, four departments including the Guizhou Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and the Organization Department of the CPC Provincial Committee issued a notice on further promoting the implementation of paid staggered leave for employees. The notice said that employers should be encouraged to set employees’ leave plans for the next year in the fourth quarter each year, and to abandon the one-sided view that not taking leave is the same as “dedication and service.”
This notice speaks directly to the hearts of workers. In recent years, some enterprises and institutions have, intentionally or unintentionally, overemphasized the behavior of taking little leave, not taking leave at all, and proactively working overtime, framing it as a display of dedication and service. This kind of guidance clearly needs to be corrected. Being devoted to one’s post and having normal rest and taking time off are not in conflict. As long as you can finish and do your work well within working hours, you are a good employee.
The government work report has mentioned “time off” for three consecutive years. The whole society should develop a healthier view of labor: protecting employees’ right to rest and take leave is also so that companies can develop better. When employees rest well and are full of energy, they can devote more energy to their work, creating value for the company and for society. (Photo/Text: Jiang Lidong / Wang Lei)
