On March 28, the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum—Conference on Collaborative Innovation Among Thousands of Universities and Enterprises was held in Beijing. The conference was guided by the China Association for the Promotion of Production-Research Cooperation. The Collaborative Innovation Platform Among Thousands of Universities and Enterprises, the Beijing University of Science and Technology Development Department, the Technology Transfer Center of Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhongguancun Construction and Investment, and Baijia Xinchang jointly organized it. The attending guests discussed together practical paths for deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, and enabling high-quality development.

Wang Jianhua, Chair of the China Association for the Promotion of Production-Research Cooperation, introduced that the Collaborative Innovation Platform Among Thousands of Universities and Enterprises was initiated and established by the China Association for the Promotion of Production-Research Cooperation together with key universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the University of Science and Technology of China, with support from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Intellectual Property Administration, and other organizations. Since its establishment, the platform has continued to work deeply in the field of university-enterprise cooperation, constantly improved its service system, and optimized the matchmaking and alignment mechanisms. It has effectively addressed the two-way pain points of both universities facing difficulties in landing and implementing their scientific and technological achievements, and enterprises facing difficulties in upgrading their technology, helping to drive regional economic innovation and development.

Sun Youhong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Southeast University, pointed out that universities need to use a whole-chain approach connecting source innovation, achievement transformation, and industrial implementation as the breakthrough to systematically unblock the bottlenecks in the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation.

Lei Chaozi, Executive Vice Chair of the China Association for the Promotion of Production-Research Cooperation and the former Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Informatization of the Ministry of Education, said that enterprises must not only be the primary entities for applying achievements, but also be primary entities for investing in innovation. Universities must promote a shift in their research evaluation system from prioritizing papers and quantity to prioritizing actual contributions and the value of industrial services, so that university research activities are closely aligned with national development strategies and the needs of industry and industrial development.

At the conference site, a batch of important university-industry-research cooperation achievements came into being. Five joint university-industry-research collaborative laboratories—focused on frontiers such as digital and intelligent fluid machinery and engineering applications, robotic embodied intelligent manufacturing and assembly, and energy and power intelligent inspection and maintenance technologies—were officially signed and launched.

As one of the organizers of this conference, Baijia Xinchang, leveraging the Collaborative Innovation Platform Among Thousands of Universities and Enterprises, focuses on the core link of transforming scientific and technological achievements. It has built a liaison bridge between universities, research teams, and the market and enterprises, providing practical service support and development momentum for the landing, transformation of universities’ scientific and technological achievements, and for regional industrial innovation and upgrading.
