Saudi industry figures send cooperation signals to Chinese companies in Zhongguancun
China News Network, Beijing, March 29 (Reporter Su Jingxin) On March 29, Samir S. Shaysri, Vice President for Industry Cluster Empowerment at Saudi Arabia’s former National Industrial Development Center and the current CEO of the Industrial Base Company, said at the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference that China’s proposed Belt and Road Initiative not only serves as a parallel strategy alongside Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030,” but also perfectly aligns with it.
That day, Shaysri attended the “China–BRICS Countries Technology Transfer Overseas Cooperation Matchmaking Session.” In his remarks, he first thanked the Chinese side for its efforts to promote bilateral technology transfer and overseas cooperation. He pointed out that Saudi Arabia is currently in a stage of economic structure transformation, and that its non-oil economy continues to grow. For Chinese companies, this stage is not only an investment opportunity, but also a chance to participate in building the industrial system.
Regarding the investment opportunities for Chinese companies in Saudi Arabia, Shaysri elaborated on three major strategic areas.
In the fields of advanced manufacturing and new energy vehicles, he said that Saudi Arabia is building a global mobility industry ecosystem, and China’s advantages in the electric vehicle supply chain fully match Saudi Arabia’s needs for localized production and the development of an industrial ecosystem system.
In the fields of the digital economy and artificial intelligence, he noted that Saudi Arabia is moving from pilot projects to practical applications of artificial intelligence, investing extensively in smart cities and cloud infrastructure. “And Chinese cities such as Beijing and Hangzhou are world leaders in these areas, with enormous room for cooperation.”
In the fields of healthcare, biotechnology, and genomics, Shaysri said that Saudi Arabia’s genomics program is drawing a national genomics blueprint to enable personalized diagnosis and treatment, while China possesses world-class expertise in gene sequencing, gene therapy, and biomanufacturing. Both sides have broad cooperation space in research collaboration, diagnostic technologies, and the localization of gene therapy.
Shaysri said that what Saudi Arabia is building is not just a partnership, but a complete industrial ecosystem. At the end of his remarks, he said in Chinese, “Let us work together to create the future.” (End)
