Kuomintang Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen will lead a delegation on April 7 to visit multiple locations in mainland China. She stated that this visit aims to demonstrate to the people of Taiwan and to the world that cross-strait relations do not need to involve military threats or crises, but can instead be guided by wisdom and effort along a peaceful and broad path.

Earlier, the Central Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee announced that the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping welcome and invite Cheng Li-wen to lead a Kuomintang delegation to visit Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Beijing from April 7 to 12.

The Kuomintang Chairwoman’s Office expressed gratitude and gladly accepted the invitation. During a press conference in Taipei, Cheng Li-wen said that this visit reflects the sincere hopes of mainstream public opinion in Taiwan. From former Kuomintang Chairmen Lien Chan and Ma Ying-jeou’s visits to the mainland, to her current itinerary, all are based on a shared political foundation of upholding the “1992 Consensus” and opposing “Taiwan independence.” Taiwan has choices, and for the stability of cross-strait relations and the region, as well as the well-being of future generations, it is essential to firmly pursue the path of peace.

Cheng Li-wen also mentioned that nearly ten years have passed since the last time a Kuomintang Chairwoman visited the mainland. In late October 2016 to early November 2016, then Kuomintang Chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu visited the mainland China.
