Can electric tricycles deliver a rich smart experience for users the way smart cars do, and also expand overseas?

On March 27, at the 24th China North International Bicycle & Electric Vehicle Exhibition, Suzhou Jixun Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Jixun Technology”) answered this question with newly released products.

Jixun Technology focused on introducing its Zhiyue series leisure tricycles, including two new models—Zhiyue S and Zhiyue C—equipped with four industry-first technologies: intelligent smart braking that stops when reversing, in-vehicle machine smart connectivity, intelligent automatic holding when stopped, and steering-intelligent protection and early-warning alerts.

“Electric tricycles are a market with a very large dividend space. Using auto-grade technology to build smart tricycles allows us to cover a wider range of scenarios. At present, China is still the world’s largest electric tricycle market, but overseas market size has also reached the scale of hundreds of billions. For overseas markets, we have products scheduled for delivery.” Jixun Technology CEO Zhang Zhansheng told Securities Daily.

In terms of smart driving experience, Zhiyue S achieves dual-screen smart control and one-button seamless synchronization through in-vehicle machine smart connectivity. After the steering-intelligent protection and early-warning feature automatically activates, it turns on the rearview imaging and, together with ground-projection warning cues, effectively helps avoid blind-spot risks. The full-area connectivity technology supports 4G remote control, enabling users to check the vehicle status anytime via their phone. Such a level of technical configuration is not commonly seen in the electric tricycle industry.

Electric tricycles are not cars—their range is limited and their scenarios are limited. Users’ price budgets for electric tricycles are also far lower than for electric vehicles. Against this backdrop of market demand, why is Jixun Technology making intelligent electric tricycles?

Zhang Zhansheng believes Jixun Technology’s intelligentization logic is based on two aspects. First, users have already grown accustomed to the interaction styles of smart phones and smart home devices; intelligent features in tricycles such as voice control, navigation, and screen mirroring are a natural extension. Second, safety is a hard requirement. For example, displaying the rear incoming traffic via a screen in the cockpit can provide more intuitive assistance for judgment than traditional rearview mirrors.

In addition, Zhang Zhansheng mentioned that the market scale of electric tricycles has been growing. Through extensive market research, the company has found that electric tricycles with smart features also have strong market demand, and the industry urgently needs transformation.

As the “capillaries” of China’s urban and rural economies, electric tricycles carry the daily travel needs of tens of millions of users. Public data show that China’s electric tricycle market size has grown from RMB 25.7 billion in 2017 to RMB 45.0 billion in 2024. In addition, according to data from the CooYun Industry Research Institute, for the electric cargo tricycle submarket alone, its market size will reach about $21.1 billion in 2026 (about RMB 145.8 billion).

Zhang Zhansheng said that China’s tricycle industry has long targeted low-cost mass production, with relatively low cockpit intelligence levels, and serious homogenization as well. With the dual drive of the new national standards and market maturity, users’ higher-stage demands for safety, comfort, and intelligent interaction still need to be further met.

Against this backdrop, Jixun Technology has chosen to enter the track of intelligent electric tricycles with auto-grade technology. Zhang Zhansheng said that many members of the Jixun Technology team have experience related to auto-grade intelligent connected systems.

In terms of pricing, the reporter learned that most of the newly released products at the event are in the thousand-yuan range, and only some high-end models are priced above RMB 10,000.

According to publicly available information, Jixun Technology was founded in 2025, and its products have already covered multiple cities in China. In an interview, Zhang Zhansheng revealed that the company already has some user base, and both potential partners and investors are in discussions.

According to a report by the research firm Research and Markets, the global electric tricycle market size is expected to grow from $3.66 billion in 2025 to $6.04 billion in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.7%. Among them, the Asia-Pacific region is the main growth driver.

In February 2026, Jixun Technology became the industry’s first brand to appear on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala, quickly bringing it into the public eye.

“ The company doesn’t just make tricycles; in the future it will also make two-person travel and intelligent ecosystem-chain products. The goal is to build a platform for a full-scenario layout of smart travel for short and mid-distance trips.” Zhang Zhansheng said, adding that Jixun Technology hopes to reshape the industrial ecosystem for smart travel for short and mid-distance trips.

Yang Huaiyu, a senior researcher at Shanghai Xiazhi Liangshi Consulting & Management Co., Ltd., told Securities Daily: “Intelligent electric tricycle scenarios are highly adaptable, covering high-frequency hard-demand scenarios such as short-distance travel, feeder/transit connections, and light freight. Users’ sensitivity to safety and convenience is no less than that of car users. At the same time, the spillover of the smart electric vehicle industry chain provides feasibility for technology to sink. But cost control, compliance, and other aspects in the intelligent electric tricycle industry still need further improvement.”
