According to South Korean officials, after recently banning exports of naphtha to stabilize domestic supply and respond to the Middle East crisis, South Korea is considering expanding export restrictions to petrochemical products.

A government official said at a meeting held by lawmakers of the ruling party at a plastics manufacturing company: “Although, at the government level, we have already banned exports of naphtha, we are also considering exports of petrochemical products in depth.”

The South Korean government also said it will reexamine regulatory measures for products such as ethylene and synthetic resins to support local plastics manufacturers facing shortages of raw materials.
