Vitol’s investment lead for this project, Edward Ruiz, said that the Delfin LNG project, located offshore Louisiana, is expected to make a final investment decision within the next few weeks—or, at most, within a few months.

Ruiz said during a break at the Cambridge Energy Week conference held in Houston on Wednesday that, but for an explosion that occurred in the pipeline planned to transport natural gas to the proposed floating LNG facility, the project, with an annual capacity of 13.2 million tons, could have received financial approval earlier.

The pipeline ruptured on February 3. It has now been repaired and is awaiting regulatory approval to resume gas flow. Ruiz said that once approved, a final decision will be made.
