18-year-old man involved in a robbery case attempted to escape during transport at Tuen Mun Court; prison officers subdued him with pepper spray

Correctional officers stopped an 18-year-old male remand prisoner at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts who attempted to break out while he was being held.

The remand prisoner was arranged to go to the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts this morning to make his first appearance. At 9:29 a.m., after arriving at the magistrates’ court, during the process of getting off from the vehicle inside the detention room’s gate, he suddenly attempted to break out. The correctional officers present immediately stopped him, and after warnings proved ineffective, used a pepper spray to subdue him. The remand prisoner was then taken back to the correctional institution.

The Correctional Services Department has reported the incident to the police for handling.

The remand prisoner was remanded in February this year for robbery.
