Wang Yi holds a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar

On March 27, 2026, Political Bureau member of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar by appointment.

Dar briefed Wang Yi on the latest developments regarding the situation in Iran and Pakistan’s views, and thanked China for its support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, saying that a ceasefire and stopping the fighting, as well as restoring peace, are a shared aspiration of all parties. This is a critical moment to restart peace talks; the international community should encourage the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table and find effective ways to achieve peace. China-Pakistan have consistent goals and the same positions on this issue. Pakistan looks forward to working with China to play a positive role in urging dialogue and stopping the fighting.

Wang Yi reiterated China’s principled position, saying that China and Pakistan are strategic cooperative partners that support and trust each other, and both uphold an objective and impartial stance on this war. On the whole, their views are consistent. China appreciates Pakistan’s tireless efforts to help cool down the situation and supports Pakistan in continuing to play the role of mediator. Launching peace talks is not easy, but only if talks begin can more casualties and losses be avoided, and it is also conducive to preventing the fighting from spreading and escalating, as well as to restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. China is willing to strengthen strategic communication and coordination with Pakistan to make efforts to promote peace and stop the fighting, and to jointly work toward regional peace and stability.

The two sides agreed to jointly promote a ceasefire and stopping the fighting and to restore peace talks, ensuring the safety of non-military objectives and shipping lanes, and supporting the United Nations to play a leading role.

The two sides also exchanged views on conflicts along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, among other issues.
