Iran reiterates that response actions are not aimed at regional countries, calls on all parties to maintain a cautious stance

Local time on March 30, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani Baghaei said at a regular press briefing that the actions Iran has taken fall under self-defense and are not aimed at regional countries. He urged relevant parties to make the distinction, emphasizing that Iran’s actions should not be viewed as hostile acts against any country. He also said he hopes neighboring countries will comply with their obligations under international law, moral responsibilities, and the principle of good-neighborliness, and will not allow their territory and facilities to be used by the United States and Israel to carry out attacks against neighboring countries.

Baghaei said that the current conflict is not only against Iran, but may also sow seeds of division and instability for the region’s future. He pointed out that the region’s future should be built on peace, cooperation, and good-neighborliness, which requires all parties to maintain a prudent stance in the current situation. Baghaei emphasized that one should not expect Iran to unilaterally exercise restraint when it is subjected to aggression, and said that the United States and Israel are making use of the facilities of regional countries to carry out related actions.

Baghaei said that Iran has ties with all regional countries in terms of culture, religion, and economics, and has never—and will never—view regional countries as enemies. Iran’s defensive actions target the military bases and related facilities that launch aggression against Iran. Iran’s position is both rational and based on the right of legitimate self-defense granted by international law, and it is also consistent with morality.
