The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office of News Affairs said in a statement on the 11th that when Iraqi Prime Minister Sudani spoke by phone that day with Iranian President Pezeshkian, he said Iraq opposes and condemns the “unjust war” targeting Iran, reiterating Iraq’s commitment to safeguarding the security and stability of the region and of all its brother countries.

Sudani said Iraq is willing to make efforts to end the conflict and bring all parties back onto the track of dialogue and peaceful resolution, and opposes resolving disputes by force because doing so would threaten regional and international peace and security.

Sudani said the Iraqi government respects Iran’s sovereignty and will never allow any side or individual to use Iraqi territory to carry out attacks against Iran; however, attacks targeting Iraqi territory similarly infringe upon Iraq’s sovereignty and security, which is unacceptable and would undermine Iraq’s efforts to end the war and promote dialogue.

The statement said Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Iraq’s position of opposing the settlement of disputes by force, and thanked the Iraqi government for its efforts to maintain regional security and stability. He reiterated that Iran respects Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. (Xinhua)
