Trump: Iran agrees to most of the "15-Point Plan"; aims to seize Iran's oil. U.S. media: Over 50,000 U.S. troops deployed in the Middle East!
New developments in U.S.-Iran tensions have emerged, but there are significant differences in both sides’ statements.
According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Trump declared on the 29th that the indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are “progressing well,” and Iran has agreed to “most of the content” of the ceasefire “15-point plan.” Trump admitted that what he wants most is to “take Iran’s oil,” and he does not rule out occupying the Iranian oil export hub of Khark Island.
Trump also stated that the oil to be delivered by Iran to the U.S. is about to be shipped to “prove their sincerity.” “They have given us 20 tankers of oil, and the shipments will begin tomorrow.”
However, Iran previously stated that Trump’s comments about Iran offering a “big gift” are political theatrics, lacking factual basis.
Trump: Negotiations “Progressing Well,” Iran Agrees to Most Terms
In an interview on the 29th, Trump stated that the indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are “progressing well” through a “middleman,” Pakistan.
According to Xinhua News Agency, later that day on Air Force One, he further stated to the media that Iran has agreed to “most of the content” of the ceasefire “15-point plan,” and he questioned: “They agreed to most of the terms. What reason do they have to disagree?”
When asked in an interview with the Financial Times whether a ceasefire agreement could be reached in the coming days and whether the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened, Trump did not disclose specific details.
Trump said, “We have about 3,000 targets left, we’ve bombed 13,000 targets, and there are still several thousand targets to strike. An agreement could be reached soon.”
Trump Explicitly States He “Wants to Take Iran’s Oil”
In an interview with the Financial Times, Trump candidly stated that what he wants most is to “take Iran’s oil” and hopes to replicate the approach “like in Venezuela.” He indicated that occupying Khark Island is not ruled out, “We may take Khark Island, or we may not. We have many options. This also means we would need to garrison Khark Island for some time.”
Khark Island is located in the northwestern Persian Gulf, about 25 kilometers from the Iranian coast, and is Iran’s largest oil export base, with about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exported through the island. The U.S. military conducted a massive strike on Khark Island on March 13, claiming to have “successfully struck” over 90 military targets on the island but “reserved” the oil infrastructure. Trump dismissed the island’s defensive capabilities, stating, “We can easily take it.”
U.S. Special Forces Increase Troops in the Middle East, Deploy Over 50,000
According to a report from the New York Times cited by Xinhua News Agency on the 29th, with 2,500 Marines and 2,500 sailors from the U.S. 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit arriving in the Middle East, the total number of U.S. forces deployed in the region has exceeded 50,000, which is 10,000 more than usual, but the numbers are still insufficient for a large-scale ground operation.
The report states that these special forces personnel have not yet been assigned specific tasks, but as a professional ground combat force, they may participate in missions related to the Strait of Hormuz, Khark Island, or Iran’s nuclear facilities.
