Recently, the State Council’s Food Safety Office held talks with responsible officials from the governments of Chengdu and Hechuan District in Chongqing regarding food safety issues exposed by the 2026 CCTV “315” gala. They urged local authorities to strictly investigate illegal activities in accordance with the law, conduct a thorough analysis of the causes of the issues, identify weak links in their work, and take effective measures for rectification to ensure the safety of consumers’ food. The State Administration for Market Regulation also held talks with responsible officials from the governments of Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, and Shenyang regarding other related issues exposed by the gala.

The discussions pointed out

The issues exposed by CCTV’s “315” gala are fundamentally due to the ineffective implementation of the main responsibilities by some producers and operators. It also revealed shortcomings in local management responsibilities, insufficient capability to identify problems, and gaps in daily supervision and inspections.

The discussions required

Relevant local governments must deeply understand the extreme importance of food safety work and maintaining market order, and effectively enhance their sense of responsibility, urgency, and mission. They must strictly implement the “four strictest” requirements, thoroughly investigate the issues exposed by the gala in accordance with the law, and maintain a strict and punitive high-pressure stance; they must firmly implement responsibility, hold relevant responsible units and individuals accountable in accordance with regulations and discipline, and effectively conduct “dual investigations” for each case; they must deeply learn from the lessons of the issues, conduct thorough inspections and rectifications, strengthen supervision across the entire chain and all fields, improve risk prevention and resolution mechanisms, resolutely prevent similar issues from occurring again, effectively safeguard consumers’ legitimate rights and interests, and strive to create a safe and reassuring consumption environment.
