Oil Major EQT Pops To Record High, Leads 23 Hot Names New To Best Stock Lists
Keeping your watchlist up to date is key to making money in the stock market. IBD helps you do that by regularly updating stock screens like the IBD 50, IBD Big Cap 20 and Stock Spotlight. In the tables below, you can see which stocks like natural gas company EQT (EQT) have just been added to or removed from these lists.
It should come as no surprise that oil and gas stocks are outperforming. Iran has so far kept the Strait of Hormuz mostly closed as the war grinds on. Roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply normally passes through that strait. And Microsoft (MSFT), Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) and others are building humongous AI data centers that use a lot of energy.

EQT stock hit an all-time high Wednesday. And it joined the Big Cap 20 Thursday. Scorpio Tankers (STNG), which provides seaborn transport of oil products, came aboard the IBD 50. So did oil/gas pipeline operator Oneok (OKE).
Okeanis Eco (ECO), another ocean tanker firm, came into the Stock Spotlight. An outlier to the oil trend is retailer Burlington Stores (BURL). Known especially for its coats, Burlington joined Oneok and Scorpio Tankers in the IBD 50. All told 23 stocks joined various IBD best stock lists.
Each list helps identify the best stocks to buy and watch by using The IBD Methodology. This strategy looks for stocks displaying the same common traits typically shared by the best-performing stocks in the early stages of their big price moves. Check this column daily to help build and maintain your watchlist with alerts to the most recent changes.
EQT Is A Nontraditional Fossil Fuels Company
EQT boasts a best-possible 99 Composite Rating, indicating it’s in the top 1% of all stocks overall. The energy company engages in the transport of natural gas and other oil products. Although it’s in the fossil fuels business, it strives to be a clean energy company. EQT CEO Toby Rice says on the company’s website that “EQT is the first traditional energy company of scale in the world to achieve net zero on a Scope 1 and Scope 2 basis.” Scope 1 and 2 refer to a widely used measure of levels of greenhouse gas emissions.
Keep in mind that you should never buy a stock just because it’s on an IBD list. Always do your own research and run all your stock ideas through a buying checklist. You can also streamline your investing process with IBD’s simple three-step routine to quickly track general market trends, find stocks to watch, and pinpoint the best time to buy and sell.
