U.S. Secretary of State claims progress has been made in negotiations with Iran

According to CCTV International News, on March 26 local time, U.S. President Trump criticized the “fake news media” for reporting that he “urgently hopes to end the war through diplomatic means” during a cabinet meeting, insisting that it is “Iran that is begging to negotiate.” He stated that the decision to cease fire depends on Iran, and during this time, U.S. bombing will continue.

Trump also revealed what he called a “great gift” from Iran to the United States that he mentioned two days ago: allowing 10 tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. These tankers are said to fly the flag of Pakistan. Trump claimed this was a “great gift” from Iran to show its sincerity in negotiations, indicating that the U.S. was “talking to the right people.” However, neither he nor the White House provided details about the specific situation of these ships. Iran has repeatedly emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to the U.S. and its allies, and ships from friendly countries can pass safely.

When answering reporters’ questions at the meeting, Trump refused to respond to whether the U.S. would take action to control Iran’s enriched uranium, calling the question “absurd.” He also claimed in response to a reporter’s question that controlling Iranian oil exports is “an option,” but it is inconvenient to discuss further at this time.

Shortly after the cabinet meeting concluded, Trump announced that “strikes against Iranian energy facilities will be postponed for another 10 days.”
