Guangzhou New Airport Breaks Ground, Greater Bay Area to Gain New Hub

People’s Financial News, March 25 — Guangzhou New Airport broke ground on the 25th. A new modern international aviation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is moving from blueprint to reality, providing further momentum and support for the development of a world-class city cluster in the region. Guangzhou New Airport is located in Gaoming District, Foshan City, situated at the geographic center of Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, and Yunfu cities, directly serving over 20 million people. According to plans, Guangzhou New Airport will function as a domestic civil hub, an important part of Guangzhou’s international aviation hub, one of the aviation hubs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and will also serve as the western comprehensive transportation hub of the Greater Bay Area. The total investment in the Guangzhou New Airport project is 41.808 billion yuan, including 35.909 billion yuan for airport construction. The project will build two long-distance parallel runways, a terminal building covering approximately 260,000 square meters, 94 aircraft stands, and supporting facilities. It is expected to meet operational demands of 30 million passenger throughput, 500,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput, and 260,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings annually. (Xinhua News Agency)
