CITIC Futures: Supply Disruptions Erupt, Lithium Carbonate Prices Surge

Abstract generation in progress

Supply disruptions have not yet been resolved, and end-user demand has weakened. Lithium prices fluctuate with macroeconomic sentiment. In the first quarter of 2026, supply remains relatively strong. According to China Customs data, lithium ore and lithium carbonate imports maintained good growth in January and February. At the same time, demand has become differentiated. From end-user data, sales of new energy vehicles performed poorly, but upstream cathode and material production remain hot, which requires further verification. In summary, the supply and demand of lithium carbonate are currently in a tight balance. Meanwhile, Middle Eastern geopolitical events have caused the market to shift between recession expectations and energy substitution expectations. The market lacks strong drivers, so short-term prices are expected to fluctuate sideways. (CITIC Futures)
