U.S. equities rose Wednesday as tech giants Nvidia and Oracle helped extend gains from the prior session.
The S&P 500 climbed 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite added about 1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 200 points, or 0.4%. Nvidia shares gained 2% ahead of its earnings report, scheduled after the bell, alongside results from Salesforce and Snowflake.
Investors are reassessing high tech valuations and questioning the pace of AI-related capital spending by hyperscalers.
Analysts said Nvidia’s forecast will be closely watched for indications of revenue growth. Michael Rosen, chief investment officer at Angeles Investment Advisors, noted the stock’s recent run presents potential for profit-taking, while Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi of UBS highlighted expectations for strong sales amid rising AI investments.
Software and AI-focused stocks broadly extended gains from Tuesday, when Anthropic launched new connectors for its Claude Cowork tool, enabling easier integration with corporate apps. Rosen described lingering investor worries over AI and software as somewhat overstated, suggesting the market is moving toward more selective assessments of companies’ positions.
Broader market attention remains on geopolitical tensions with Iran and economic policy signals from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
