Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 25 — According to Decrypt, a U.S. District Court in Southern Indiana sentenced Russian citizen Aleksei Volkov to 81 months in prison, ordered him to pay approximately $9.2 million in restitution to the victims, and confiscated his equipment used for criminal activities.

Volkov, 26 years old, from Saint Petersburg, Russia, operated as an “initial access broker,” specializing in infiltrating corporate networks and selling access to ransomware groups like Yanluowang. He assisted in encrypting victim data and demanding cryptocurrency ransoms, causing actual damages exceeding $9 million and aiming to cause losses over $24 million.

In November 2025, after being arrested by Italian authorities and extradited to the United States, Volkov pleaded guilty to six charges, including illegal transfer of identity information, sale of access credentials, fraud involving access devices, aggravated identity theft, conspiracy to commit computer fraud, and conspiracy to money laundering.
