Crypto Finance CEO: Banks Are at Least 5 Years Behind in DeFi
Deep Tide TechFlow News, on March 25th, according to BeInCrypto, Stijn Vander Straeten, CEO of Crypto Finance, a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse, stated that traditional banks are at least 5 years behind in their deployment in decentralized finance (DeFi), and large-scale adoption by major institutions may still take 5 to 10 years.
Vander Straeten pointed out that large financial institutions must wait for clear regulations before entering new fields. This structural delay makes it difficult for them to compete with native crypto platforms, which have already launched features like weekend stock trading and real-time settlement, putting pressure on traditional finance. He said that the new generation of investors cannot accept the current situation where stock transactions take two days to settle.
Vander Straeten also emphasized that the core advantage of banks lies in compliance and governance, which many native crypto platforms still lack. “Challenger platforms are always faster in innovation, but large institutions will never rush in when rules are unclear.”
