According to The Washington Post, U.S. Department of Justice prosecutors acknowledged in a closed-door hearing that there is currently no evidence suggesting Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell engaged in illegal conduct related to the Fed's headquarters renovation project. The investigation originated from the Trump administration's questioning of cost overruns on the approximately $2.5 billion headquarters renovation project, after Trump previously claimed the project involved "criminal conduct." A federal judge has ruled that the related grand jury subpoena lacked an evidentiary basis and dismissed it.
