OpenAI plans to discontinue its video generation service Sora to streamline its artificial intelligence product line. Despite Sora's strong performance in the Apple App Store, usage subsequently declined, and OpenAI will shut down the application and its API.

ChainCatcher reports that, according to Jiemian News, OpenAI plans to discontinue its Sora video generation service six months after launching the standalone application to streamline its AI product lineup. The company launched the Sora app at the end of September last year, promising users easier creation and sharing of realistic AI videos within a semi-social network.

This free app briefly topped the Apple App Store charts but has since fallen in ranking. In addition to shutting down the standalone app, OpenAI will also close the Sora API used by developers.
