Fast Technology, March 16 — At the 15th China (Hangzhou) 315 Problem Car Exhibition in 2026, multiple Mercedes-Benz EQC owners traveled across provinces to protest.

One EQC owner said that their vehicle previously had an 80 kWh battery, but since a recent recall upgrade, it can only be charged to 62 kWh. The range has dropped from over 400 kilometers to around 200-300 kilometers.

According to him, most EQC owners now see a range just over 300 kilometers. The owner bluntly stated, “Spending 400, 50,000 yuan to buy a car and ending up with a ‘Lao Tou Le’ (a joke implying a poor or disappointing outcome).”

Notably, Guangzhou also held its sixth Guangzhou 315 Problem Car Exhibition yesterday, where a Mercedes-Benz EQC owner also protested, accusing Mercedes and authorized 4S shops of locking the battery under the guise of “safety recall and software upgrade” without the owner’s consent, causing a significant reduction in range. Mercedes and the 4S shops have ignored the owners’ demands.

The protesting owner said that they used to be able to charge to 80 kWh, but now can only charge to 60 kWh. The manufacturer claims this is to prevent battery thermal runaway, but it effectively reduces the usable capacity of the battery. They demand the manufacturer replace the battery or buy back their vehicle.

The owner revealed that many owners have contacted the manufacturer and 4S shops, but they have received no response or resolution.
