Accelerating Again: Starting with Google Chrome September 153 Stable Release, Release Cycle Shortened to 2 Weeks
IT Home March 4 News, Google announced yesterday (March 3) that, to ensure security, starting in September 2026, the release cycle for the Chrome browser will be adjusted from every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks.
Google stated that since 2021, Chrome has released milestone versions every 4 weeks; starting in 2023, to further narrow the gap in patches, they also began releasing security updates weekly.
Google emphasized that to meet the needs of modern web development, they are further adjusting the Chrome release schedule to every 2 weeks. Although the release frequency will be higher, the scope will be smaller, minimizing disruptions and simplifying post-release debugging.
Google said that starting with the release of Chrome 153 stable version on September 8, Chrome will release a new beta and stable version every two weeks. This policy applies to all platforms, including desktop devices, Android devices, and iOS devices. Developer and Canary channels will remain unchanged. IT Home has attached the original adjustment table as follows:
Additionally, the extended stable version for enterprise users will remain unaffected, continuing to follow an eight-week update cycle, providing IT administrators ample time to manage internal enterprise updates.
In terms of release process, Chrome will follow the sequence of “beta release, stable cut, early stable release, official stable release,” and will retain the weekly security update mechanism introduced in 2023.
