According to reports, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi stated that after the U.S. and Israel cease their military actions against Iran, Japan may send Self-Defense Forces to mine the Strait of Hormuz.

Motegi pointed out that Japan’s mine-sweeping technology is among the most advanced in the world. After the ceasefire, if sea mines become an obstacle, it will be considered.

U.S.-Japan Leaders’ Meeting Fully Discussed Iran Issue

Motegi recently concluded a visit to the United States with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. He said that the U.S.-Japan leaders’ meeting was a good discussion, especially regarding Iran. Both sides had fully discussed the issue and coordinated their views.

Regarding navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, Motegi said the talks did not specify what Japan hopes to do. Japan has clearly explained what it can and cannot do under Article 9 of the Constitution. Trump also nodded with an “approximately, that’s about it” attitude.
