Intercepted 187,000 Yuan! Jiangsu Xuzhou Police Urgently Stop a "Pig Butchering" Scam
“Thanks to you, otherwise I would have lost all 180,000 yuan!” “Thank you for your timely warning, which helped me recover my hard-earned money.”
Recently, the Liu Xin Police Station of Quanshan Branch, Xuzhou Public Security Bureau, staged a “race” against scammers. With quick response and patient persuasion, the officers successfully intercepted a “pig-butchering” telecom scam, saving residents in the area from a financial loss of 187,000 yuan. Their actions strengthened the anti-fraud defenses and protected the community’s property.
That day, the Liu Xin Police Station received an anti-fraud warning from higher authorities: a woman in the area was suspected of being targeted by an online scam, showing signs of large cash withdrawals, with funds at risk of being stolen by scammers. The situation was urgent!
The police took immediate action! After receiving the instructions, the duty officers quickly activated the rapid persuasion mechanism, rushing to the scene to intervene and cut off the scam chain.
Upon arrival, the officers quickly verified that the woman had previously met a stranger on an online dating platform. The scammer impersonated a former military personnel, carefully crafting a “trustworthy” image to gain her trust. Over time, through daily caring and emotional companionship, they built a false romantic relationship.
After the “relationship” warmed up, the scammer revealed his true intentions, using the “high-return investment” gimmick to repeatedly promote the idea of “easy money,” encouraging her to invest funds. Blinded by fake love and high returns, the woman didn’t realize she was caught in a carefully woven scam. She went directly to the bank to withdraw 187,000 yuan in cash, ready to hand it over as instructed by the scammer.
Initially resistant to the police’s urgent persuasion, the woman still believed in the “sweet lies” spun by the scammer, convinced that her “boyfriend” wouldn’t deceive her, and even thought the police were “meddling.”
The officers remained calm and composed, adjusting their communication approach. They patiently listened to her concerns, eased her resistance, and used recent real cases of “pig-butchering” scams to explain the tactics—covering fake identities, emotional manipulation, inducing investments, and demanding money—clearly exposing the scammer’s entire operation. After five hours of persistent persuasion, the woman finally realized the truth, recognized the scam, and immediately decided not to hand over the money. She gratefully held the officers’ hands and expressed her thanks.
This thrilling intervention successfully protected the community’s “hard-earned money.” The warning and intervention not only saved her from financial loss but also reinforced the anti-fraud defenses with concrete actions.
Police remind everyone: Be cautious with online dating. If a stranger claims to be a “military officer,” “wealthy and handsome,” or “beautiful and rich,” shows concern for you, talks about love, and then recommends “high-return investments” or “internal financial products,” it’s 100% a scam!
