A single tree does not make a forest, a single note does not make a melody! Apple CEO Cook: Let’s create a symphony together
On March 22, the China Development Forum 2026 Annual Conference opened in Beijing. Apple CEO Tim Cook delivered a speech, stating that Apple will continue to support China’s innovation, green development, and education, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and joint efforts to create the future. Cook has attended this forum for many years and this year served as the foreign chair of the forum.
In his speech, Cook clearly stated the idea of Apple’s “1+1=3” philosophy, pointing out that cooperation can create extraordinary value beyond individuals. He specifically mentioned a favorite Chinese proverb, “A single tree does not make a forest, a single note does not make a song.” “I believe that by working together, we can cultivate this forest; I believe that we can not only play a melody but also compose a symphony.”
Cook highly praised China’s achievements on the path of high-quality development. He pointed out that China’s tech developer community is a vivid embodiment of “new quality productivity,” driving social progress with innovative tools. In manufacturing, Cook commended partners for their “extraordinary” progress in automation and intelligent manufacturing, and emphasized that Apple is proud to be involved in advancing smart manufacturing to higher levels.
Regarding green development, Cook announced that over 90% of Apple’s production in China now uses clean energy, and more than 90 suppliers have committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity for Apple products by 2030. He stated that Chinese supplier partners’ innovations in 3D printing, industrial wastewater treatment, and high-efficiency solar panels have made outstanding contributions to reducing environmental carbon footprints.
Additionally, he discussed the importance of “investing in people” and emphasized education. He said education is one of the most powerful forces for creating opportunities, helping people build knowledge and skills to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Companies can also play a vital role by collaborating with educational institutions to ensure students acquire the skills needed in the modern innovative economy.
He announced that Apple will make an additional donation to the China Development Research Foundation, a long-term partner, to support a nationwide vocational education pilot project, where industry experts will provide guidance and training for students at vocational colleges.
Cook stated that the three pillars of innovation, green development, and education are closely interconnected and represent Apple’s shared vision of progress with its partners. Through relentless efforts based on common goals, collaboration, and trust, all parties can not only write new chapters but also co-author a brand-new “work.”
