Tesla Wafer Plant Breaks Ground, Annual Production Capacity Expected to Reach 100-200 Billion Chips

On March 22, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on social media that Tesla has partnered with SpaceX and xAI to launch a 2-nanometer wafer factory in Texas, USA. The factory is expected to have an annual capacity of 10 to 20 billion chips.

The three-party project is called TERAFAB. Musk previously stated during Tesla’s earnings call on January 28 that Tesla needs to build its own wafer factories to address supply bottlenecks 3–4 years from now.
