AMD CEO Reportedly to Visit Samsung Electronics to Discuss AI Chip Foundry Cooperation

Industry sources said Tuesday that AMD CEO Dr. Su Zifeng plans to visit Samsung Electronics’ manufacturing facilities in South Korea and meet with senior executives in the semiconductor division.

According to sources, Su Zifeng is scheduled to visit Samsung Electronics’ chip manufacturing base in Pyeongtaek, about 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on Wednesday. She will meet with Jun Young-hyun, co-CEO responsible for the chip division, and Han Jin-man, head of Samsung’s foundry business.

This will be Su Zifeng’s first visit to South Korea since taking office in 2014.

Industry analysts expect the two companies to discuss collaboration in the foundry sector, potentially expanding cooperation beyond storage chips.

Since 2025, Samsung Electronics has been supplying HBM3E to AMD’s latest AI solutions, maintaining a close business relationship.

Discussions may include measures to utilize Samsung’s capacity for AMD’s next-generation AI chips.

If Samsung Electronics successfully secures AMD as a new client, its foundry business could gain momentum, potentially boosting profitability in an industry primarily dominated by TSMC.

Sources also indicated that Su Zifeng may meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
