Meituan Responds to "Peking University Graduate Delivering Takeout": After verification, there is indeed a rider named Tao Moujun who only completed 5 orders in a single day. We call on everyone to make careful judgments about behavior that exploits high educational background labels to gain traffic.
Questioning AI · How does Meituan respond to false claims about educational backgrounds?
On March 18, the official Meituan account “Xiao Tuan Has Something to Say” posted that they have noticed a video claiming “Peking University graduate delivering takeout” circulating on social media, and they immediately verified the situation with the Wanyuan station in Haidian, Beijing.
According to the station manager, there is indeed a crowdsourced rider named Tao Moujun who registered in early December 2025, and on December 9 alone, completed five deliveries. There have been no records of any orders since then.
It should be noted that Meituan’s rider registration process is simple and does not require submission of educational certificates. Therefore, the station and platform do not have access to riders’ educational information and cannot verify personal claims about their educational background.
Last year, Meituan responded to claims that “Ding Mouzhao graduated from Tsinghua and delivers takeout.” An investigation found that Ding Mouzhao had only completed 34 orders in over four months with Meituan, which is far from his claim of “thousands of orders.” Meituan also stated that on the “Ding Mouzhao Channel” account, he posted 49 videos, 19 of which feature him wearing Meituan rider uniforms (7 in the member area, requiring payment to view). Most videos have the cover titles “37-year-old male PhD, Tsinghua, Peking University, Oxford graduate.” The two pinned videos are titled “Stay Calm During Gaokao” and “Responding to Education Disputes,” both with over 100,000 views.
After the official response clarified the facts, Ding Mouzhao voluntarily deleted the videos of himself in delivery uniforms from his account.
Regarding last year’s rumors such as “Meituan in Guangzhou is fully staffed, the first time in history, nearly 30% of riders have a bachelor’s degree” and “70,000 master’s and 300,000 bachelor’s degree holders delivering for Meituan,” Meituan stated that educational background information requires riders to submit relevant certificates to the official websites of the Ministry of Education’s Student Information Center, the Ministry of Education’s Study Abroad Service Center, or overseas universities for verification. Any claims about the total number of riders with certain educational backgrounds are baseless and are false information spread for traffic and attention.
Meituan understands everyone’s concern about employment topics but once again urges the public to remain rational and cautious when encountering behaviors that use high-education labels to attract attention.
