SoftBank Plans to Build a $500 Billion Mega AI Data Center in Ohio, USA
SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son announced on March 20th local time that SoftBank Group is planning to build a massive data center infrastructure project in Ohio, USA, with an investment of $500 billion for this single project. SoftBank intends to develop the AI computing complex at a former uranium enrichment facility owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. The facility’s power consumption could reach 10 gigawatts. The first phase of the data center project is expected to include 800 megawatts of power, costing between $30 billion and $40 billion, and is scheduled to be completed by early 2028. The project will utilize approximately $33 billion worth of gas-fired power generation equipment, which will be installed by the end of this decade.
