How does Saudi Arabia’s move reflect the diplomatic escalation of Middle Eastern conflicts?

According to Russian media reports, the situation in the Middle East is sliding toward total chaos. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stern statement, announcing the expulsion of five Iranian diplomatic personnel from the Saudi embassy, including the military attaché and his deputy, and ordered them to leave within 24 hours.

Saudi Strong Response

According to the official Saudi statement: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has notified the military attaché, the deputy military attaché, and three embassy staff members of the Islamic Republic of Iran that they must leave the Kingdom within 24 hours, and they are considered persona non grata.” Saudi officials emphasized that this move is a direct response to Iran’s attacks on its territory. Saudi Arabia reaffirmed that it will take all necessary measures to “defend sovereignty, ensure security, and protect territorial integrity.”

Just a few days earlier, on March 18, Qatar also took similar action, declaring Iranian embassy military and security personnel as “persona non grata.”

Iran’s Top Leaders Face “Decapitation”

Behind this diplomatic storm is the brutal war that erupted on February 28. At that time, a US-Israeli coalition launched a large-scale invasion of Iran, claiming it aimed to “eliminate the threat of the Islamic Republic.” The assault resulted in severe consequences: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials—including Ali Larijani, Gholamreza Soleimani, and Esmail Hatiq—were killed in the explosions. Currently, Mahdi Khamenei has succeeded as the Supreme Leader.

Strait of Hormuz Blockade and Oil Prices Surge

In retaliation, Tehran launched multiple missile strikes against US military bases in the Middle East and carried out large-scale attacks on oil facilities linked to the US. Iran has nearly completely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, which controls about 20% of global oil and gas trade, causing international fuel prices to soar. According to Iranian authorities, the war has resulted in over 1,300 civilian deaths, 18,000 injuries, and extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure.
