The Syrian Interim Government’s Border and Customs Authority issued a statement on the 17th local time, saying that two customs officers were killed in an attack by the extremist group “Islamic State” in northern Aleppo Province, Syria.

Mohammad Abdul Gani, commander of the Aleppo security forces of the Syrian Interior Ministry, stated that a customs patrol was ambushed by IS militants while patrolling the Safira area in the province, resulting in two deaths and two injuries.

Gani said that after the incident, Syrian security forces immediately intervened and exchanged fire with IS militants. One armed attacker detonated a suicide bomb and was killed, with no casualties among security personnel. The Syrian Interior Ministry continues to carry out operations to apprehend the fugitives.

On February 21 this year, IS issued a statement claiming that Syria has been “occupied by Turkey and the United States,” and that the organization has begun a “new round of operations” in Syria.
