Using inexpensive MicroLEDs, Microsoft networking innovation aims to make datacenters more efficient
Microsoft is developing a new networking technology using inexpensive MicroLEDs to make datacenters more efficient, aiming for commercialization by late 2027. This innovation is expected to reduce energy consumption by 50% compared to laser-based optical cables and will be less expensive to manufacture with a longer lifespan. The MicroLED system, alongside Microsoft’s Hollow Core Fiber (HCF) technology, addresses the growing demands of AI and cloud services by improving data transmission speed, reliability, and energy efficiency within and between datacenters.
