Son's body goes missing from hospital! Chinese father files police report in Thailand, authorities order investigation

A bizarre disappearance of a baby boy in Thailand has aroused public attention. According to reports, Mr. Fang, a Chinese businessman living in Chiang Mai, Thailand, recently went to the Rajaneves Police Station in Chiang Mai Province to report that the body of his one-month-old son had disappeared out of thin air in the hospital’s morgue.

Mr. Fong’s lawyer, Atibon Polchai, said that in November 2025, Mr. Fong’s son, who was born a month prematurely, was born in a private hospital in Chiang Mai and needed surgery. However, the private hospital did not have the conditions to transfer the baby to another large local hospital in Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, on November 8, 2025, his son died a few hours after the transfer, not even before the operation began. The forensic doctor then performed an autopsy on the body according to the procedure.

After receiving the results, Mr. Fang believed that the autopsy conclusion did not match the baby’s condition when he was transferred from the first hospital. Therefore, he reported the case to the police on December 4, 2025, accusing the relevant doctors and medical staff of “causing death by negligence”, and applied for the body to be transferred to the Sirikit Department of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for a second autopsy. While waiting for the relevant procedures, the baby’s remains were temporarily stored in the hospital involved.

After Sirikit Hospital agreed to conduct a second autopsy, Mr. Fong went to the hospital on March 11 to collect his son’s body and found that the body was gone! After hours of fruitless searches and no explanation, he reported the case to the police that night. Mr. Fang said he planned to sue the hospital if the body was still not found.

Porchai said that all the information mentioned so far is supported by clear documents provided by the hospital. He expressed disbelief that such a thing could happen in a large hospital.

Currently, the local police chief, Sinotai Lilitam, has revealed that the police have ordered an investigation into the matter. The investigation included coordinating with the hospital to find out the handling and transportation processes of the remains to determine the cause of the disappearance and whether it was caused by negligence. The hospital has a special person responsible for the storage of the body, and the police will investigate the relevant personnel in accordance with the procedures.
