National Energy Administration: Total Electricity Consumption Grew 6.1% Year-on-Year in January-February 2026
People’s Financial News, March 17 — On March 17, the National Energy Administration released data on electricity consumption across society for January and February. During this period, total electricity consumption was 1,654.6 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%.
Breaking down by industry, primary industry electricity use was 22.3 billion kWh, up 7.4% year-on-year. Secondary industry electricity use was 1,027.9 billion kWh, an increase of 6.3%, with industrial electricity consumption rising 6.4% and high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries increasing 10.6%.
Tertiary industry electricity use was 323.1 billion kWh, up 8.3% year-on-year, with charging and swapping services and internet data services growing by 55.1% and 46.2%, respectively. Residential electricity consumption in urban and rural areas was 281.3 billion kWh, an increase of 2.7%.
