Reuters citing sources reports that AMD (U.S.: AMD) CEO Su Zifeng will visit Samsung Electronics’ chip manufacturing plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on Wednesday (the 18th). During the visit, she will tour the production lines and discuss expanding the collaboration scope from memory to wafer manufacturing.

Sources say Su Zifeng will meet with Samsung Electronics Co-CEO and Memory Chip Business Head Jun Young-hyun and Foundry Business Head Han Jin-man. After touring the factory, she is also expected to attend a dinner hosted by Samsung Group Chairman Lee Jae-yong.

Samsung and AMD closely collaborate in the memory chip sector

Since last year, Samsung has supplied AMD with HBM3E (fifth-generation high-bandwidth memory) chips for AMD’s latest AI accelerators, maintaining a close partnership in memory chips.

Jun Young-hyun stated at the shareholders’ annual meeting that with increasing AI demand and ongoing memory shortages, Samsung will continue investing in equipment and R&D to master future technologies. He expects the overall business environment to remain favorable. However, he also noted that the global economic environment still faces uncertainties, including tariffs and cost pressures on devices like TVs, smartphones, and home appliances, which are risks to watch.
