Impact on Legislative Council Case | Appeal by Wong Chung-yiu and 6 Others Fully Rejected

The 2019 July 1 Legislative Council storming case resulted in convictions for rioting for 12 people including actor Wong Chung-hao and others. They were sentenced last March to between 54 months 20 days and 82 months imprisonment respectively, with 7 of them filing appeals. After the appellate court heard arguments in December last year, it dismissed today the appeals by the 7 people against their convictions or sentences.The 7 appellants are actor Wong Chung-hao, former University of Hong Kong student union president Sun Xiao-lan, "Mong Kok female village chief" Bi Huifun, Wu Zhiyong, Lam Kam-kwan, Law Lok-sang, and Shen Jing-le. Apart from Wong Chung-hao and Bi Huifun who appealed against both conviction and sentence, the other 5 only appealed against their sentences.

The July 1, 2019, Legislative Council riot case, involving artist Wang Zongyao and 11 others convicted of rioting, sentenced in March the previous year to imprisonment ranging from 54 months and 20 days to 82 months, with 7 of them appealing. After hearing submissions in December last year, the Court of Appeal today dismissed the appeals by the 7 individuals regarding their convictions or sentences.

The 7 appellants are artist Wang Zongyao, former Hong Kong University Students’ Union President Sun Xiaolan, “Occupy Wong Girl Village Chief” Bi Huifen, Wu Zhiyong, Lam Jinjun, Lo Lesheng, and Shen Jingle. Besides Wang Zongyao and Bi Huifen, who appealed both their convictions and sentences, the remaining five only appealed their sentences.
