The US Arrests Venezuela's President Right in His Bedroom
Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were reportedly pulled from their bedroom by U.S. forces during a raid operation that led to their detention, according to two sources familiar with the matter who told CNN. Sources said the couple was detained in the middle of the night while sleeping. The operation was carried out by U.S. Army special forces, specifically the elite Delta Force. A U.S. official confirmed that the raid caused no casualties on the U.S. side. According to those briefed on the incident, a team of FBI( agents coordinated with special forces during the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Plans are currently underway to transport Maduro to New York, where he will face charges in a federal court in Manhattan. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration )DEA( stated that they have been investigating and building charges against Maduro and several high-ranking Venezuelan military officials for years. This work is expected to form the basis for upcoming charges. Sources told CNN that the Trump administration began preparing for an operation to attack Venezuela and arrest President Nicolás Maduro as early as mid-December. One official said the plan was implemented earlier but was disrupted by various factors, including weather conditions and President Trump’s decision to conduct a bombing campaign in Nigeria during Christmas. Previously, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Maduro would “soon face the full force of American justice, on U.S. soil and in U.S. courts” after his detention in Venezuela. Meanwhile, many countries in the region and around the world condemned the U.S. operation, arguing that it severely infringed on Venezuela’s sovereignty, threatened regional peace, set a dangerous precedent, and emphasized dialogue as the solution.
