SOL price hits a yearly low, but the usage metrics are fierce—here's the real gap between it and ETH

Abstract generation in progress

【Crypto World】2025 is coming to an end. Solana’s days are a bit tough—it’s the biggest loser among the top five cryptocurrencies, declining over 30% for the year. In comparison, Ethereum only fell by 6%. As a result, the SOL/ETH ratio shrank by 25%, and investors certainly have a lot of complaints.

But here’s the interesting part. Data shared by Artemis CEO Jon Ma has proven them wrong—when it comes to usage, Solana completely outperforms. Monthly active users approach 98 million, total transaction volume reaches 34 billion, and transaction value skyrocketed to 1.6 trillion USD. These metrics rank among the top across all blockchains. The community has started debating again about who is truly the king of the network.

However, there’s a subtle point here. Although Ethereum is more resilient in terms of price, its strengths lie elsewhere—in total transaction volume, Total Value Locked (TVL), developer activity, and other fundamental indicators. These are the true core competencies for the DeFi ecosystem and long-term sustainable development.

SOL didn't drop as much as ETH, but user activity is really strong. However, the DeFi ecosystem still depends on ETH's complete set of features, as developers are all piling up there.

SOL didn't drop as badly as ETH, but user activity exploded. This is the real strength. --- ETH still follows the old system, having more developers certainly increases robustness, but SOL's user stickiness is truly exceptional. --- Price drops don't mean much; what's important is who's actually using it. --- Why does it seem like SOL is the future? Users are so active. --- Each chain has its own way; there's no need to compare high or low. --- High developer activity, so what? Users have all gone to SOL. --- Having more locked-in value means a better ecosystem? I don't think so. --- Interesting, SOL's monthly active users are so impressive. --- Wait, is the total transaction volume inflated?

SOL's recent drop was quite brutal, but user activity remains top-notch, unlike some tokens that only keep falling without any support.

SOL has fallen so sharply, but user activity is still so strong... It really shows there's something there.
