Ethereum Gas limit raised to 60 million, network processing capacity doubled.
[Block Rhythm] Ethereum has finally “expanded” the network. Starting from November 25, the block Gas limit has been directly pumped from 45 million to 60 million. This move responds to the demands of users and developers who have been calling for a year — the network is too congested, and additional lanes are needed.
Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter confirmed the news in a post, stating that this is a result of a year-long effort by the community. “A year ago, everyone started calling for an increase in the Gas limit, and now we have finally achieved a 2-fold increase, and this is just the beginning.” Data shows that more than half of the validators have voted in support of this adjustment, reaching the threshold required by Ethereum's consensus rules, so this change has taken effect automatically.
What does an increase in the gas limit mean? Simply put, it means that the Ethereum base layer can handle more transactions per block, increasing the network throughput. For users, the congestion situation may ease somewhat, and gas fees might decrease a bit. However, this is just the beginning, as more expansion solutions are on the way.
