Australia has revealed an "official verification" encryption scam that even the police cannot recognize.
The Australian Federal Police has issued a warning: a new type of encryption eyewash has recently emerged, and the scammers' level of professionalism is alarming.
How deep is the trap?
The con artist doesn't ask you for money directly, but rather does it in three steps:
Step One: Submit a false cybercrime report in your name on the government official website ReportCyber.
Step 2: A few days later, the “police” called and said you are suspected of encryption money laundering, and they asked you to check that report record yourself (it can indeed be seen on the official website).
Step 3: The “police” say that a representative from an encryption company will call you to assist with the investigation, but they are actually eyewash. They will ask you to transfer your assets to a “safe wallet” — that wallet actually belongs to them.
Why is it so difficult to see through?
This is not an ordinary phishing email. The eyewash uses a real government system, and the process completely mimics a real police investigation, even the official documents are fake but look real. A former victim almost got scammed, but later discovered the contradictions in the call and was spared.
Eyewash Checklist
✓ Real police will never ask for your wallet password or mnemonic phrase.
✓ Received a call from a stranger saying you are involved in a case, hang up directly and call 110 to confirm.
✓ Do not click on unfamiliar links to verify, enter the official website URL yourself to check.
✓ When someone is in a hurry to have you transfer money to “protect assets,” it is 100% eyewash.
Australian police remind: This wave of eyewash has escalated, but the principle remains unchanged – using official names to create trust. Don't let the beautiful packaging deceive you.
