Transak: 92,000 users at risk from phishing attack on employee

robot
Abstract generation in progress

The cryptocurrency access platform Transak reported a data breach that exposed personal information of 92,554 users (1, 14% of its total base ). The incident originated when an attacker compromised an employee's laptop through phishing, gaining access to the system credentials of an external KYC provider.

What data was leaked?

The compromised data includes:

  • Full names
  • Birth dates
  • Identity documents (passports, driving licenses)
  • Verification selfies

Important Note: According to Transak, NO financial data, passwords, emails, phone numbers, or credit card information were compromised.

Who is affected?

Transak is directly notifying users affected via email. If you did not receive an email, you were not affected. The company has already alerted regulators in the United Kingdom, EU, and the United States.

Context: It is not the only case

This leak occurs weeks after Fidelity Investments suffered a similar breach that exposed data from 77,000 customers. The concerning part: it is the fourth Fidelity violation in 12 months ( March 4, March 18, July 19, and again in August ).

The lesson: Even large platforms are vulnerable. Keep sensitive data updated and monitor your accounts after leaks.
