Looking at this data, it shocks me to think that in South Sudan people survive on barely $251 a year. How is it possible that in the 21st century such inequalities exist? Yemen with $417 is not much better, devastated by a war that seems to interest the Western world little.
Burundi ($490), Central African Republic ($532) and Malawi ($580) complete the shameful top 5. Does anyone talk about these countries in the news? Rarely.
I am surprised to see Nigeria on the list with $807, considering its oil resources. Of course, corruption and mismanagement explain a lot. The same goes for the Congo ($743), rich in minerals but poor in human development.
Africa sadly dominates this list: Mozambique, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Mali… While world powers debate about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, these countries struggle for basic needs.
In Asia, countries like Myanmar ($1,177), Nepal ($1,458), and Tajikistan ($1,432) are also experiencing severe shortages.
What angers me the most is seeing India ($2,878) closing the list. A country with nuclear weapons, space programs, and millionaires in technology, but with millions living in extreme poverty.
This reality should make us question the current global economic system. While some accumulate fortunes in digital assets, others survive on less than one dollar a day.
