【Caixin Global】 At the 2026 annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia, Hu Zuliu, founder and chairman of China’s Primavera Capital Group, said that in China’s capital markets, discussions about IPOs are lively, mergers and acquisitions transactions are not active, yet they have attracted little attention. He suggested that efforts could be made to boost the activity of M&A transactions and further improve the capital markets.

On March 27, Hu Zuliu shared the above views during a discussion session themed “Creating a Favorable Market Environment and Promoting Long-Term Value Investing.” He specifically noted that one of the biggest difficulties currently facing China’s economy is the so-called “involution” and excess production capacity. In fact, one very effective way to absorb excess capacity is through mergers and acquisitions; a highly active M&A market can promote industry consolidation.
