Lithuania will crack down on unlicensed cryptocurrency companies starting from 2026
On December 26, according to Cryptopolitan, the Bank of Lithuania warned that crypto service providers operating in Lithuania must obtain a license by December 31, 2025, or face corresponding consequences. Any platform that has not completed compliance within this year will soon be considered to be operating illegally in the Baltic country, as Lithuania is now strictly enforcing relevant European regulatory rules. All entities providing crypto-related services in Lithuania must hold a license. For companies already operating in this field, such as cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet service providers, regulators have granted a transition period to obtain the necessary operating authorization; this transition period will expire at the end of 2025. The Bank of Lithuania (CBL) once again reminds market participants that this requirement is not a recommendation but a mandatory regulation.
