The CDC in the United States warns that chicken Alfredo meals may trigger a listeria outbreak.

According to the Gate News bot and a report from Bloomberg, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that residents in 13 states in the United States have been infected with the same strain of Listeria due to consuming ready-to-eat pasta sold by Walmart and Kroger.

The CDC in the United States warned in a statement on Wednesday that 17 people have fallen ill after being infected with a certain virus associated with some chicken fettuccine Alfredo products sold in the refrigerated section of FreshRealm supermarkets under the Marketside and Home Chef brands.

The statement claims that 16 people have been hospitalized and 3 have died in Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. One case of a pregnancy-related illness led to a miscarriage.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States added that FreshRealm recalled food distributed to retail stores across the country on Tuesday. These illnesses began between July of last year and May of this year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated: “The CDC and multiple state public health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of listeria infections. Certain chicken Alfredo pasta produced by FreshRealm sold at grocery stores is the cause of this outbreak. Do not consume the recalled chicken Alfredo pasta.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States states that Listeria is particularly harmful to people aged 65 and older, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. These infections are caused by cold-resistant bacteria that can survive under refrigeration. These bacteria are more likely to spread from the intestines to other parts of the body, leading to a severe illness known as invasive listeriosis.

According to the World Health Organization, listeriosis is one of the most severe foodborne illnesses, with high-risk foods including ready-to-eat meat products.
