Youtube Expands Creator Monetization Using Paypal USD Stablecoin
Youtube has reportedly begun letting U.S. creators receive payouts in Paypal’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, Paypal USD (PYUSD), signaling a shift toward regulated digital currencies as mainstream payment tools and deepening stablecoins’ role in creator monetization.
Youtube Expands Creator Payouts With Paypal Stablecoin Option
Big technology companies continue to explore new ways to integrate digital assets into consumer-facing services. Youtube has expanded its creator monetization options, according to a report by Fortune on Dec. 11, by enabling U.S.-based creators to receive payouts in Paypal’s stablecoin through the payments provider.
The move underscores accelerating interest in stablecoins as functional payment tools rather than speculative assets. The report explains that Youtube, which is owned by Google, now allows eligible creators in the U.S. to choose payouts denominated in Paypal’s U.S. dollar–pegged stablecoin, Paypal USD (PYUSD), using Paypal’s existing payouts infrastructure.
Paypal’s head of crypto, May Zabaneh, said the feature is live and builds on Paypal’s long-standing relationship with Youtube as a provider of payout services for contractors and gig workers. Zabaneh said the structure enables Youtube to introduce a stablecoin option without directly managing crypto assets, reducing operational and compliance complexity for the platform.

According to the report, Paypal added the capability for payment recipients to receive funds in PYUSD earlier in the third quarter, prompting Youtube to extend that option to creators who earn revenue from their content. The development comes as stablecoins attract increased attention from technology firms and fintechs following recent regulatory developments in the U.S. Paypal has been an early participant in crypto among large tech companies, allowing users to buy and sell bitcoin and ether in 2020 and launching PYUSD in 2023. Since then, the company has integrated the stablecoin across its products, including Paypal and Venmo wallets, merchant payments, and vendor payouts.
The Youtube and Paypal integration for PYUSD payouts represents a notable inflection point for regulated stablecoins, reinforcing their role as core payment infrastructure for the global digital economy rather than volatile trading instruments. The arrangement enables Google to address creator demand for faster, around-the-clock settlement and potential access to on-chain financial services, while limiting custodial exposure by relying on Paypal as a licensed intermediary. For Paypal, the partnership strengthens PYUSD’s position in high-volume, real-world commerce, setting it apart from stablecoins primarily used in decentralized finance and framing it as a compliant, low-cost remittance option with significant upside if and when the feature expands to international creators beyond the U.S.
