UFC star McGregor accuses fellow retired UFC fighter Nurmagomedov of $4.4 million NFT fraud.
PANews, November 27th news, according to Cryptobriefing, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Conor McGregor publicly criticized his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, stemming from the retired champion's launch of a series of NFTs inspired by the traditional Dagestani hat “papakha,” which became famous due to his performance in the UFC arena. Social media reports state that the NFT issuance generated approximately $4.4 million, while Nurmagomedov immediately deleted previous promotional tweets after the sales were completed. McGregor immediately accused Nurmagomedov of implementing an “eyewash,” claiming he was profiting from fans by exploiting the name of his deceased father and Dagestani culture, and then erasing all promotional traces. He bluntly stated that this was a “shame and stain” on Nurmagomedov's father's legacy. Nurmagomedov countered by calling McGregor a “eyewash” and insisted that NFTs are legitimate “digital gifts” aimed at promoting tradition. He stated that McGregor still tries to humiliate him years after losing their 2018 matchup. Furthermore, McGregor had ventured into the cryptocurrency space, collaborating with Real World Gaming DAO to launch the “REAL” Meme coin, but the presale did not meet its target, and the team ultimately refunded the bidders.
