Metaplanet CEO responds to the sluggish stock price: If mNAV falls below 1 times, stock buyback will be considered, short selling and using issuance to perform Margin Replenishment is illegal.
BlockBeats news, on September 19, Simon Gerovich, CEO of Japanese Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet, responded on the X platform regarding the recent poor performance of the company’s stock price. He stated: 1. The disclosure of the Bitcoin purchase window from September to October is merely because the company must define a regulatory window, but it is not a hard deadline for execution. The purchase of Bitcoin will prioritize speed, while also considering market impact, and balancing three factors: maximizing BTC returns, minimizing the market's impact on Bitcoin prices, and optimizing Bitcoin income operations. 2. Short selling stocks and using newly issued stocks for Margin Replenishment is illegal, and every brokerage in Japan has made this clear. The 30% fall in Metaplanet’s stock price is clearly not planned or desired by the company, and it cannot publicly speculate on specific market activities. 3. A significant portion of the funds Metaplanet has accessed comes from institutions that only go long. 4. An mNAV below 1 will negatively impact Metaplanet's Bitcoin yield, at which point the issuance of preferred shares and other options will be assessed, and stock buybacks may also occur. (Note: mNAV is the ratio of market capitalization to net asset value.)
